Stretch goal reached: "Sacrificial Lamb" difficulty mode unlocked! Next one up: Orchestral recording sessions!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Apr 07, 2021 at 02:29:54 AM

You did it! With all of your help we have reached another stretch goal, the sixth one of this campaign! The "Sacrificial Lamb" difficulty will make its appearance in Worship and it won't be for the faint of heart. The team is gonna have fun putting together this unforgiving experience. We hope you'll enjoy trying to rise above this challenge for the glory of the old gods!

On to the next stretch goal!

This stretch goal will enable us to put another layer on top of the production value the game already has with recording sessions with a live orchestra! It is safe to say that the soundtrack is already shaping up to be amazing, but this would be the icing on the cake. Our audio director Léandre Monette will cry tears of joy if we reach this stretch goal and get to record an orchestra playing his tracks so lets do this!

Something is brewing in the sound studio!

With this next stretch goal on the horizon, we felt it was fitting to give you a small glimpse of something amazing being created in the audio department! Here it is:

Hopefully this makes you want to hear more because we will have something really nice to show you all not long after the campaign!

Discord community goal reached! More than 2000 members

Wow, the small community we had with Struggling has grown exponentially since the launch of the Worship Kickstarter campaign! We wanted to establish contact with our community and you all knocked it out of the park! This will make it way easier to get your feedback on game features and alpha/beta bug reports. Just being able to discuss about our games with you all is also amazing, thanks for being a part of this adventure! Now time to show a sneak-peek of the skins unlocked by the community goal:

The pace has picked up for these last two days! We will do everything we can to grow the Worship cult as much as we can during the remaining time! Who knows, maybe we'll manage to reach the other stretch goals in time!

To close this update we leave you with a cool executioner fanart

Community god category #4 polls opens! Cast your vote on your favorite skins
about 3 years ago – Tue, Apr 06, 2021 at 01:04:10 AM

We have a hard time believing we are now about to open the polls for the last category of the community god event. This month really flew by for our team and it was awesome to hold this event during which our steadily growing community pieced together a new god for Worship! Now that we know what Kessessa is all about, this category will determine what her cultists and followers look like. Time to reveal the entries that will make their way into the polls!

Category #4 selected community entries

Entry A: By Snickering0

Entry B: We decided to completely skip entry B this time around because we deemed it too powerful for mere mortals ;)

Entry C: By Carol2015 and Cult Mom

Entry D: By CryptidLid

Congrats to the winners of the contest! Here's what the polls look like for the last category:

Will things play out differently without entry B being around? Go cast your vote on the Discord server and we'll see! Keep in mind, the winning entry will be redrawn into the Worship aesthetic by our own artists at the end of the entire event. We're mainly focusing on the design itself, not just the quality of the drawing.

Honorable mentions

By now its clear that there's always amazing entries that were just a hair away from making the selection. Its time to put these under the spotlight because they absolutely deserve to be seen!

That's all for today, here is additional fanart from one of the selected entries that we couldn't include in the polls in the sake of fairness.

Worship comic included with physical edition: Moments Before Disaster - Entering the last 48h of the campaign!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Apr 05, 2021 at 09:58:28 PM

As we enter the last 48h of Worship campaign we have yet another super exciting piece of news to share with you all. But before that, we wanted to acknowledge the incredible support you've all shown towards Worship and Chasing Rats Games. We took a risk by deciding to reveal Worship early with this Kickstarter campaign and we are so glad we did because you've made it clear that you are as excited by Worship as the Chasing Rats team! A big thank you to all our backers that believe in Worship (pun intended)! What we reveal in today's update is another way to thank all of you, and also expand on the awesome Worship universe. Alright we're done with the teasing, lets get to it!

Worship: Moments Before Disaster

We're overjoyed to announce that instead of a small "game manual", every physical edition of the Worship will contain a comic called: Moments Before Disaster! In addition, every Pagan tier backer and above will receive the digital version of the comic!

Moment Before Disaster is a small comic that contains a series of short stories about three devoted cult followers. Full of dark humor befitting the game, most of these comedic stories ends up with the demise of one or more follower, hence the name of the comic. To give you sneak peek into this adorable and gruesome reading experience, we have a full 2 page story to share here and now!

Click here for the full size PDF

Do you love these three followers already? Because we sure do! Tell us what you think about Moments Before Disaster on the Discord server or in comments here!

Stretch goals in sight

We are currently doing everything in our power to spread the word about our eldritch overlords (and thereby Worship). The "Sacrificial Lamb" stretch goal is in sight and if the old gods manifest their occult might, the final burst of the campaign may enable us to reach further goals! It's your last chance if you want to convert your friends into the sweet heresy of Worship for the campaign rewards. Here are the remaining stretch goals:

Community goals final push

These all help us with either communicating with Worship's community or to help spread the word about the game! Thank you to everyone who joined the Discord, the community is awesome and wholesome. It's very motivating for the team to be able to discuss with you all and to see your creations!

That's about it for this update, thanks again for your overwhelming support! Moments Before Disaster is our way of saying thank you to all our backers, we hope it shows! Now the team will get back to their dark rituals. Time to summon a demon or two to help reach these stretch goals!

Here's a fanart very fitting for this update to end it with style

Church enemies reveal: Executioner and Inquisitor!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Apr 03, 2021 at 12:24:50 AM

Time for another faction spotlight where we elaborate a little about the enemies you'll face! This time around we turn our eyes to the church and their deadly inquisition. The unsuspecting pawns of Salithys are dead set on erasing everything they consider as heresy; witches and cultists alike shall burn. Despite their benevolent facade the church counts more than a few unsavory individuals among their ranks. Time to meet some of them!

New Enemy Reveal: Executioner

Lore

This hulking mass of a man is trained to do the church's dirty work: Torturing poor souls in the inquisition's dungeon, setting up the stakes to burn witches and wielding the axe when a beheading is in order. Even the church believers are not comfortable in the cold presence of executioners. Some believe they are more machine than human: methodic, efficient, and emotionless. This could not be further from the truth. As they cleave necks with their axe and rend flesh with their tools, under their hood lies a sadistic smile.

Gameplay

Heretics should not take lightly an encounter with a church executioner. Even if their speed is hindered by their sheer mass and heavy axe, they are formidable opponents. With overwhelming strength and the reach of their weapon, they can extinguish the life of many followers in one fell swoop! Look out for their telegraphed attacks and seize your chance if their axe gets stuck somewhere (or in someone) after a strike.

Concept:

Bonus Story:

“Broken. No other words could describe the old man restrained in the depths of the inquisition's dungeon. He confessed long before the executioner started to rend his flesh but that was not enough to escape the atrocity that befell him. As the cracked shell of a man saw his torturer pick up another gruesome instrument from his workbench, it happened. His mind toppled into madness, and with it came the soothing whispers of an old god. Tendrils of unholy strength imbued his body, shattering his physical and mental shackles. Hubryus sensed purpose as the warped mind of the scholar contemplated what he would do to the executioner.”

Church enemy: Inquisitor

Lore

The sight of their unmistakable hat and cape inspire hope in the eyes of the church followers and dread in the hearts of everyone else. Inquisitors are indoctrinated and trained with the art of swordsmanship starting from a young age. Their mastery of the rapier is only outmatched by their hatred towards everything the church considers heresy.

Gameplay

These trained soldiers of the inquisition are tough opponents, especially for those versed in the dark arts of blood rituals. Inquisitors know what cultists are up to so be careful when drawing with blood too close to them. They will be quick to erase part of your blood symbols with a swift flutter of their cape.

Their finesse and mastery of the sword allows them to tackle many opponents at once. You will want to look out when they charge their lunge attack. Try to recall your followers out of harms way or else they will find themselves lifeless, skewered on the inquisitor's sword.

Concept

We hope you liked this sneak peak of the Church faction ranks! The campaign is entering its last few days and we still have something awesome left to reveal before it ends so stay tuned for upcoming updates!

Gameplay impact chosen for the community god! Contest for the last category opens
about 3 years ago – Fri, Apr 02, 2021 at 02:04:20 AM

The community has spoken and the entry for Kessessa's gameplay impact has been chosen! Entry B made by Megan will determine how worshiping Kessessa, Mother of the Coven, will affect the gameplay of your cult! Here's the winning entry:

Congrats to the winner and to all the other fantastic entries for this category. The team is extremely excited about how the community god shaped up and it will be awesome to see it in game. Now we only have 1 category left before us: cultist and follower skin!

Skins for the devotees of Salithys and Glub

As you saw with the other gods, you'll be able to unlock skins in game representing the cultists and followers that serve them! Its only fair that Kessessa's faithful can obtain cosmetics to show their devotion too! There won't be a CRG entry for this category because we know the community will come up with something amazing to close the event. Enter the contest for category #4 of the community god event by submitting your own visual interpretation of the cultist and follower skins for Kessessa's devotees. The contest will close April 4th at 1pm EST, The polls will then go live on April 5th after our team has selected the winning entries for the polls!
