Latest Updates from Our Project:

Audio spotlight: The Music of Worship – New track revealed and physical vinyl OST
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 23, 2021 at 11:19:53 AM

Hi everyone, today's update is about a subject dear to our hearts here at Chasing Rats: music. Since our very beginnings as a studio, we've been blessed with an incredibly talented composer and sound designer in our core team: Léandre Monette. Working with him enable us to push sounds and music to another level making the audio an integral part of the gameplay experience rather than a layer added on top.

On the Kickstarter campaign we've already scratched written about how this design philosophy will impact Worship's music. Eldritch Cataclysm is a prime example of that philosophy as it represents the musical identity of the old god An-Ansgaidh and the cults devoted to him. This frenetic song reminiscent of combat themes is a perfect fit for the cults of warriors that Worship this fearsome god. To give a bit of context, Eldritch Cataclysm will only play if your cult serves An-Ansgaidh, in situations of life an death or in the last stretch before the cataclysmic consequences of summoning the Apostle of Deliverance into the mortal realm. If you haven't heard this amazing track yet, give it a listen to feel the full might of this otherworldly god!

Eldritch Cataclysm:
The masses fell into madness as the towering Eldritch God gazed upon them, passing through the portal.

Before jumping to this new track, Léandre had some nice things to share with the community!

"Hi everyone,

For those who don't know me yet, I'm the audio director at Chasing Rats! I wanted to use this update as an opportunity to say a few words to our awesome community. As a creative mind, I feel right at home in our wholesome indie studio. Here at Chasing Rats, I have plenty of space to take risks and experiment musical avenues in order to make unique audio design that stand out.

Witnessing the community flourishing on Discord and seeing how many of you fell in love with the artstyle of Worship, especially its cute followers, inspired me a lot the past few days. I used this creative impulse to create a brand new track about those cute little fanatics, I hope you’ll like it!

I loved this whole process and going forward I felt it would be amazing to have a place where I could share and discuss our games’ music with you all. From now on, a new channel called #bard-rat-lair, dedicated specifically to the musical development of our games will be added to our community Discord server! Can’t wait to share with the community, but now I’ll let you enjoy the rest of this update!"

New Music Track: Innocent Blood

Innocent Blood:

Behind the face of an angel lies a deadly mix of absolute devotion and lack of survival instinct.

Seeing many of you voicing their your love for the adorable followers of Worship inspired Léandre to compose a song that would embrace the art-direction and identity of the followers. Innocent Blood was the result and we think it depicts very nicely the personality of these little fanatics, cheerfully devoting their flesh and blood for their god.

Physical Worship OST on vinyl!  – a limited collector add-on

We wanted to seize to occasion, in this special update about music, to reveal something dear to us: we are very excited to announce that Worship will have a physical release on vinyl! Due to the studio's emphasis on music and sound design, we wanted to offer something premium and exciting for music enthusiasts out there (including ourselves)!

This limited first printing on vinyls will feature exclusive artworks (for the front sleeve, back sleeve and inside) that will be unique to this product! If you want to get you hands on it, add it to your pledge as an add-on for 50$CAD (about 40$USD). Visuals aren't final, we will make sure the final product is the best it can be.

Blasphemous prelude – an introduction to Worship’s Music

It was really important for us, even in early stages of development, to explore and find Worship's musical identity. This is how Blasphemous Prelude was born. These three tracks were made to give a good idea of the different types of music in Worship while staying coherent with the game's theme and art-direction. While you've heard about Eldritch Cataclysm earlier in the update, here are a few details on the two other songs:

Clad in Gold and Lies

The church leaves no sinner unpunished and its inquisition tolerates no witches unburnt.

Each faction in Worship will have its own musical identity. Clad in Gold in lies was composed with the church faction in mind. It evokes the suffocating rule of the inquisition and its tendency to burn those who don't fit their mold.

Forbidden Legends

Some myths are better left forgotten and old gods left asleep.

This one on the other hand is embracing the theme and universe of the game. Forbidden Legends sets the tone for the world of Worship!

Struggling OST - critically and community acclaimed!

Before closing this update, we wanted to take the time to talk about Struggling's music! If you like Léandre's compositions for Worship OST, you might also appreciate some of the phenomenal tracks he composed for our first game. Struggling features a very unique soundtrack that explores many music genres in a way befitting this abomination of a game!

Few quotes from various medias:

Here's one of the weirdest and most iconic song from the game, boasting over 570k views on youtube:

Lastly, the main theme of Struggling, featuring a wild cocktail of bits and pieces from the game's DNA:

That about it for today's music spotlight! We have also added a new channel on the Discord, where Léandre will be able to discuss game music with you all. Its also where he will occasionally share new music for Worship so check it out!

The World of Worship Book and Kickstarter exclusive skin set update!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 22, 2021 at 03:30:13 PM

We have been quiet for the last couple of days, but we still have some cool stuff brewing in the studio that we'll announce during the campaign! We are rapidly approaching our 4th stretch goal: Playable Followers. We know a lot of you are really looking forward to this one and it is fun to see some speculation about the next one on the Discord server. We are very grateful for everyone's support towards Worship, it is a huge motivation for the whole team!

The World of Worship - a book full of art and lore

We have been blown away by the incredible amount of interest shown from our backers towards the Worship art and lore book. To thank you for your enthusiasm regarding the art and the lore of the game, we wanted to show you a little bit more about of this very special reward from Worship's Kickstarter campaign.

The World of Worship

This book will feature more than artworks and concept art from the Worship universe. We also wanted to use it as a way to share more details about the characters, environments and lore that we otherwise couldn't all shove into the game. This is why we decided to title the book: The World of Worship! If you like what you saw in the Kickstarter campaign, you will not be disappointed by the unique artworks and forbidden knowledge featured in this volume. Here's a sneak peak of what you might witness among these cursed pages:

We hope this small preview into the World of Worship kindles your curiosity! If you want to get your hands on this when it releases, check out the backer tiers that include the digital or physical version of the book. You can also add it to your pledge as an add-on. Keep in mind that the game is in development so art and lore is still being created, the final result may differ from what we are showing now.

Kickstarter exclusive skin set update!

In the last big update, we have revealed three different choices of cultist and follower skins for the exclusive set. It was important for us to ask the community which of the bunch they would prefer for this unique backer reward. We have opened polls on the Discord to let you vote on your favorite and while most of you loved the different options, we've heard a few backers that weren't 100% happy with the choices for valid reasons. We absolutely want this special skin set to be at least as desirable as the unlockable skins shown in the last update, making it a worthwhile addition to your collection. With that in mind, we decided to reset the polls and give you an updated and improved version of all three choices. Here they are:

We value immensely the feedback we get from our community, especially for things that are meant as a thank you for all the generous backers out there! We hope you like the updated look and don't forget to head to the Discord to cast your vote (again) before March 30! The Kickstarter exclusive skin set is included with the Fanatical Follower backer tier and every tier upwards (with the exception of Pagan Mob). The blood effect skin included with the set will be revealed after the polls for the above choices closes.

The community god contest for category #2 is open for submissions until March 22, 1pm EST!

The community god event is still going strong! This time around, the community is illustrating the physical appearance of Kessassa, Mother of the Coven, chosen by the community in category #1 polls. We have already received some amazing art entries for this contest and we are looking forward to seeing what you have in store for Kessessa!

We are approaching the community goals!

More than halfway there for the Discord objective 1127/2000 members!
1285/4000 Twitter followers, climbing steadily towards the goal!
2151/20000 Steam wishlists followers, further off but not impossible to reach.

That is all for this update, as is tradition: Fanart time!

Playable followers stretch goal reached! - Next one : gods summoning cinematics
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 22, 2021 at 03:30:04 PM

Fourth stretch goal reached! We had an unexpected burst of backers today which made it possible to reach the playable followers goal earlier than we thought! A huge thank you to all our backers, this would not have been possible without your support! We are extremely hyped about playable followers making their way into the game! Take a look at the previous stretch goal update to learn more about that feature if you missed it.

As the earth shakes under the stampede of thousands of cute followers, the runes are deciphered! They foretell the cataclysmic consequences that will be witnessed by the mortal realm if cultists manage to open a breach between worlds: gods summoning cinematics.

Next stretch goal: gods summoning cinematics

At last, the Apostle of Deliverance will bear witness no more. Creating a world without suffering, devoid of sentient life.

As devotees to the old ones, our ultimate goal is to summon the god we serve into the mortal realm. With this stretch goal, when you manage to unleash one of these eternal beings,  you will be rewarded with a kickass animated cinematic. With one for each old god, these cutscenes will depict the arrival of these eldritch being, ending the world as we know it in their own way.

As Hubryus passed through the breach, he blessed his faithfuls, warping their bodies into incomprehensible shapes. He then took off into the mortal realm, looking to do the same on minds instead of flesh.

We are very excited for this stretch goal because we feel it amplifies the player fantasy of playing a cultist. It also makes it even more desirable to triumph over the game while worshiping each of the old gods. Let us know which eldritch god you want to summon to tear apart reality and plunge the world into madness.

Design spotlight: unlockables, cosmetics and player progression
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 16, 2021 at 05:45:23 PM

Hi everyone, today officially kicks off the second week for the Worship Kickstarter and its fantastic to see the support our campaign has received! To highlight this amazing first week we decided to do something special with this update. With more than 2000 backers and almost 1000 members on the Chasing Rats Games community Discord server, we had time to chat with a lot of you. We know how much you like the cultists design and above all their devoted followers, so we decided to talk about how you'll be able to customize them!

Player progression and unlocking cosmetics

As you are aware, Worship borrows roguelike elements which make starting new cults core to the player experience. You will learn from your losses and victories, bit by bit uncovering the secrets scattered across the world of Worship, becoming a powerful pawn for the old gods. That said, we wanted to create even more reasons for you to dive back in. Reasons to experiment with cults worshiping different old gods and attempt challenging optional feats. These incentives will come from a player progression system that carries on between your playthroughs. We call this system: Eldritch Prophecies.

These Eldritch Prophecies will feature a vast array of optional objectives to accomplish in game. When you manage to complete one, you’ll unlock either new gameplay elements or everybody’s favorite, new cosmetics. Gameplay elements may include new random events to encounter, new rituals to stumble upon and even new gods to worship. As for cosmetics, there are 3 types: skins for your cultist, skins for your followers and new visual effects to replace spilling blood.

We hope you look forward to devoting yourself to the will of the old gods and being rewarded for completing Eldritch Prophecies! As you most likely noticed in the update, we’ve showcased the concept art for the unlockable cultist and follower skins associated to Hubryus, An-Ansgaidh, Salithys and Glub! Let us know if you like them!

Kickstarter exclusive skin set

What better place to talk about the Kickstarter exclusive skin set than the update about skins right? I know that a lot of you have been curious about this particular Kickstarter reward so it’s only fair that we stop teasing and actually show you the goods! Here are concept arts for the exclusive Kickstarter set:

As you can see, there is not one but 3 different sets of cultist and follower skins. That’s because we figured out that the best thing to do for this very special reward was to let the community vote on which one they want! We will open a new channel on the Discord server called #we-ask-your-opinion, where you’ll be able to vote for your favorite of the bunch. The one with the most votes by March 30 will be chosen as the Kickstarter exclusive skin set! The blood effect that was advertised for the skin set will be announced and shown after the cultist and follower skins vote is over.

New backer tier: Occult Outfitter

Design with us a cultist and follower skin - (limited to 3 backers)
Some of our Discord members and Kickstarter backers have been asking for us to open some higher backer tier slots. We heard your unyielding devotion and we present to you the Occult Outfitter tier!

It opens the very unique and exclusive opportunity to design with us a cultist and a follower skin that will appear in the game! Aside from that it offers everything from the Avatar of Greed tier, but with 10 digital copies of the game (in addition to a physical limited edition of Worship) and finally 5 t-shirts instead of 3!

Real life cosmetics to show your devotion

You might wonder why 5 t-shirts for the Occult Outfitter when we only have 3 design shown on the Kickstarter campaign. That is because some aspiring cultists voiced their wish to show true devotion towards their favorite eldritch god. Having only Salithys and Hubryus as t-shirt options wasn’t cutting it so we added a An-Ansgaidh and a Glub t-shirt to the available choices!

Community god category #1 polls closed

Kessessa, Mother of the Coven is chosen entry for the god name, title and lore category!

This also means that the contest for the second category of the community event, the god physical appearance, is now open! We gathered the community feedback on the community event so far and we decided against submitting official CRG entries for this second category. This means that the polls for the god physical appearance category will feature community entries exclusively. We can't wait to see the artworks you will submit do illustrate Kessessa!

That's about it for this huge update! We hope you like what you see and don't forget to head to the Discord to vote for your favorite skin for the exclusive Kickstarter skin set!

And as always here's the fanart to close today's update! It is the visual depiction of a god entry we received for the community god event.

Secret alternate endings unlocked! Next up: Playable followers
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 16, 2021 at 02:30:34 PM

Another milestone reached for the cult of Worship! Secret alternate endings will make their way into the game, will you be able to uncover their maddening truths? The team is super excited about coming up with hidden and mysterious new ways to end your Worship’s playthroughs!

As the barrier between worlds weakens, we hear the whispers of the olds gods, enabling us to uncover the truth behind the next stretch goal: playable followers!

Next stretch goal: Playable Followers

We know some of you were converted to the sweet heresy of Worship by watching the cute little followers getting sacrificed in the cinematic trailer. If you were thinking to yourself: “can I too prove such unyielding devotion to the old god?” well, we got you covered with this next stretch goal. Join an existing cult as an expandable follower instead of a cultist. Fight, help solving puzzles and give your flesh if your god wills it. Also look cute while doing it.

In addition, it means that you will be able to have more active players in your cult, increasing it up to 8 players (1-4 cultists, 1-4 player-controlled followers)! This will also open some cool opportunities with the streamer mode as we will explore the possibility of letting your viewers enter your game as followers.

As displayed on the campaign page, a potential new cultist skin, follower skin and blood effect are tied to community goals! If you’d like them to appear in game, you can do as follow:
